Crop circle debunking

Background Story

I have a friend who keeps telling me about all this UFO and crop circle stuff: while we're working, while we're golfing, and he's even emailed me about it several times. First I typed up several reasoned, logical responses that I decided not to send, then I completely over-reacted and committed the following act of lawnsmanship:

ok, so some crop circles are made by humans:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crop_circle

wikipedia agrees with this theory but says that largly 1/5 of the crop circles are 'original' phenomenon not created by humans, this is a gross underestimation. A simple search for manmade crop circles vs. unexplained phenomenon will show that there is no way a few guys with a rope and board could have created such intricate mathematically correct designs with very sharp edges and contrasts..... watch this, you will see for yourself:

maybe they aren't formed by ufos or aliens... but then WHAT!?!?! are we seriously wasting 10billion dollars a year on black ops technology which is designed to write designs in crops? doubt it.

investigate yourself, you think it's all humans trying to pull a hoax or whatever, the evidence available doesn't support your claim. Also, you think every professional who is telling their crackpot story is just crazy? These are people that fly multimillion dollar machines, people we have tested again and again, they are the best of the best the military can produce, and their crazy? ok....

Find another angle, denying there is a coverup is old news, denying aliens are here without solid proof is one thing, (the press always takes this angle) but the circumstantial, and testimonial evidence is huge and cannot be ignored.

My Unreasonable Response

No, the dates aren't wrong, it really did take 30 days between these to come up with the idea and to grow enough grass.

Guy,

Thank you for sending me this email, at first I laughed at it but then I actually read it and all the links you sent me, which made me question my position that crop circles are a man-made hoax. I still wasn't convinced but this weekend something changed.

I walked out of my house this morning and I saw a very weird pattern impressed in the grass on my north side yard. At first these patterns seemed to be random but the more I looked at it the more I realized there was something there, that it was a shape of some sort. So then I realized it might make sense from above and I got up on an extension ladder and took the following photos.

These patterns are too mathematically and geometrically complex to have been made by nature as you state below so I checked my camera system to see if someone had been fooling around up there in the side yard and found that it malfunctioned last night. I think this speaks as evidence that something weird was going on. Besides, the shapes do seem too complex to have been made by a prankster or group of pranksters, as you say.

When I got on the extension ladder I knew that the shape wasn't natural or man made, it took me a while but I discerned a pattern. I then photographed it and spent some time analyzing the images. Whatever entity made these, I think it's trying to send a message, I just don't know what the message is.

I'm sorry that I made fun of your crop circle theories (or truths, now, from my point of view anyway) and I really need your help investigating this unexplained phenomenon. Can you come over and look at them later and give me your opinion as to what type of aliens did this. It looks like the work of grays to me but I'm willing to concede that it could be reptilians.

In this first image you can see a strange pattern. There is an outside circle that is exactly 116.66666666~ feet in diameter, and it is exactly perfect in a resolution down to the randomness of grass blades on the inside and outside circle. No human being could have made a circle this accurate.

In the center there are 3 semi-circle like figures or runes of varying sizes with the two smaller half circles being identical to each other. When examined on their own none of these "runes" seem to communicate anything but taken as a group I think you'll see a clear pattern.

Cropcircle1.jpg

This is an alternate angle, from the bottom of the hill. It seems oriented towards the bottom of the hill as if the creators of the circle were meaning to say that what is gravitationally closer to the center of the earth is the bottom of the image. The outside of the circle is not visible from this angle but that's a limitation of the extension ladder, I had to have some trees to put it up against and this was the best I could do. From this angle the pattern becomes more obvious, and it was only from this angle did I being to realize I was dealing with an intelligence of some sort.

Cropcircle2.jpg

I enhanced both images using sophisticated 3D modeling software to make the patterns clear after I came inside and that's when I realized you were telling the truth, and I felt fear, true, deep fear for the first time in my life knowing that there may be other life in the universe, but the image itself, it seems comforting in a way, I'm not able to interpret it exactly but I think the visitors are trying to communicate that they are friendly and mean us no harm, or possibly that they did it for the lulz. Any distortions in the pattern are artifacts of digital photography and optical lenses, I measured each of the figures and I assure you they are all geometrically perfect.

Cropcircle3.jpg

This is a better angle to show the precision of the runes, but they still look out of proportion due to photography and also the angle. When you arrive to inspect them we can measure them in person to confirm my observations.

Cropcircle4.jpg

It's not exactly clear but I think I've seen a similar image somewhere else, but I'm not sure. This is the closest I could find, it's similar to some engravings that were done on the space probes we sent out in the 70s.

Finally, I know, as a former skeptic that this might seem crazy and unbelievable and also that I have a history of pranks and practical jokes and you may not trust me. To prove that these are not photo-shopped here's a picture of me standing in the crop circle.

Anyway thanks for your time so far, let me know when you're coming over, I have Doug willing to bring his laser level or we can just borrow my dad's transit level for precise measurements. I'm in the process of scheduling a flyover so we can get a better perspective on the circle and get it documented on a few legitimate UFO and crop circle sites.

LOL, nice work Lew, the crop circle itself is hilarious, I'd say either the grays or the palatians did it. Phil Schneider might have some insight... I can possible come down tomorrow to take a look, nice job! :)

Called in an Air Strike

Had a plane do a flyover to get aerial pics. Continued my harassment campaign.

It's been 5 days since this incident and you still haven't come down to help me investigate this unexplained but clearly extra-terrestrial phenomenon. I'm beginning to think you're a UFO poser, sure you talk a good game about UFOs and Crop Circles but when it comes time to investigate phenomenon you're on the bench while I'm out here at bat. By now all the magnetic resonances, electromagnetic fields, radiation, and all the other evidence you've told me about crop circles has probably dissipated, we'd be lucky to find so much as a molecule of U-238 out there at this point. Maybe that's why there's so little proof about this stuff, when push comes to shove you UFO-ologists can't be bothered to get up off the couch, come down from your ivory towers, and take readings with your Geiger counters.

Meanwhile my neighbor claims he was abducted and probed last night, and the farmer down the way said a couple of his cows got mutilated. OBVIOUSLY WE HAVE AN ALIEN PROBER IN INDIANA, he's climbing in your windows snatching your people up trying to probe 'em so you need to hide your kids, hide your wife, and hide your husband cause THEY PROBIN' EVERYBODY OUT HERE.

Yesterday, I had a plane fly over and get some pictures, so my mood has gone from spooked to terrified. The following images of the lawn circle formation need no enhancement. I'm certain the visitors are trying to communicate something but I'm still unsure what this rune symbol means:
